Left is a photo of seed from the plants that the modern varieties of maize were bred from.

We have had a great day here at CIMMYT, we were given a thorough rundown on CIMMYT’s operation. I and the others were impressed with their mandate to assist the poorest people the world over to grow enough food to eat.
We were shown their seed vault which is the largest most comprehensive wheat and Maize seed vault in the world, it preserves the Germ plasm of wheat and maize right back to the original plants.
We then had a run down on their GM program and were privy to GM wheat plants growing in their lab.
